AMFI-K Water Credit Adoption Program (WCAD) Summary
Over the years, microfinance has proved to be a resilient tool in poverty alleviation and thus has been recognized as a key tool not only for improving community’s standards of living but also for national economic development. Water and sanitation is one of the basic necessities of life. Safe water and adequate sanitation is critical for families for it decreases illness, improves health and lessens the burden on women and children. Sufficient water increases crop production and animal husbandry and thus improving household quality of living.
In our endeavor to strengthen the capacity of our MFIs to deliver appropriate and sustainable products and services to the communities we serve, AMFI- K in partnership with Water.org is been piloting a Water Credit and Sanitation Program for microfinance institution in Kenya since 2019. The objective of this program is to build the capacity of financial institutions to be able to provide financial solutions that meet clients’ needs and bridge the barriers to safe water and sanitation. Water.org provided budgetary support to AMFI-K. AMFI-K deployed this budget towards providing WSS technical support to participating FI’s who in turn were projected to disburse WSS loans.
