Advancing Sector Reporting: Completion of the AMFI-K Sector Data Collection Tool

AMFI-K, in partnership with FSD Kenya, has completed the development of the sector data collection tool aimed at strengthening sector reporting, evidence-based advocacy, and the implementation of the Women’s Empowerment (WE) Finance Code across the microfinance sector.

The tool is designed to enable the efficient collection of timely, high-quality, and standardised data from our members. By strengthening how sector data is captured and analysed, the tool will support more accurate sector reporting and enhance the credibility of AMFI-K’s engagement with policymakers, regulators, development partners, and investors.

The development of the tool reflects a shared commitment by AMFI-K and FSD Kenya to strengthen data-driven decision-making and ensure that sector narratives are backed by credible evidence. Improved access to high-quality data will support more effective advocacy, enhance the visibility of the sector’s impact, and contribute to the design of targeted interventions that respond to members’ realities.

With the development phase complete, AMFI-K has begun a pilot testing phase, inviting members to participate in testing the tool. The pilot will be conducted online and will involve institutions using the platform and providing brief feedback on usability, functionality, and data requirements. Feedback from the pilot phase will be instrumental in refining the tool ahead of a full sector-wide rollout.

Members’ participation will be critical to the success of this initiative. Insights gathered through the tool will directly inform AMFI-K’s research outputs, policy advocacy, and strategic partnerships, while also strengthening the sector’s collective voice through credible, data-driven narratives.
