AMFI-Kenya, in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, supported a housing Microfinance product, an initiative aimed at expanding access to affordable housing for AMFI members. The partnership focuses on developing innovative financial solutions that empower low- and middle-income earners to achieve home ownership.
As part of this effort, a co-creation workshop was held in Embu, to develop an affordable housing loan product for Bimas Kenya. The workshop provided a platform for industry experts to design affordable housing loan products tailored to the needs of informal sector workers, who constitute a significant portion of Kenya’s labor force.
Insights from market research indicate that many Kenyans rely on incremental construction due to financial constraints. The workshop seeks to address these challenges by refining financing options, integrating housing support services, and leveraging innovative lending models. Participants are exploring new approaches, including gender-sensitive and climate-resilient housing finance solutions, to make home ownership more accessible and sustainable.
Through this initiative, AMFI-K and Habitat for Humanity aim to bridge the housing finance gap by equipping microfinance institutions with the tools to offer customized, affordable loans. The collaboration is a step toward reducing Kenya’s housing deficit and promoting inclusive financial solutions that empower communities.
