WE FINANCE CODE KENYA HOLDS THE FIRST 2026 WORKING GROUP MEETING

Following the successful launch of the WE Finance Code on 4th December 2025, signatories convened for the first Monthly Working Group meeting of 2026, hosted by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), the National WE Finance Code Champion. The meeting marked an important step in strengthening collaboration among stakeholders and advancing the implementation of the Code across the financial sector.

The session brought together participating institutions and partners to align on the strategic priorities of the WE Finance Code under the leadership of the National Champion, Dr. Susan Koech. Discussions focused on reinforcing collective commitment to promoting women’s financial inclusion and ensuring that the Code translates into practical actions within financial institutions.

Anchored in Kenya’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) and the Medium-Term Plan IV (MTP IV) Financial Sector Plan, the WE Finance Code aims to expand access to finance for women-led, women-owned, and women sole proprietorships. Through data-driven commitments and coordinated sector action, the initiative seeks to address persistent financing gaps faced by women entrepreneurs and support their participation in the country’s economic development.

Participants emphasized the importance of moving beyond commitments to measurable implementation. Institutions are now expected to operationalize the Code through improved data collection, gender-responsive financial products, and targeted strategies that respond to the needs of women entrepreneurs.

As implementation gathers momentum, the focus remains clear: translating pledges into tangible outcomes that strengthen women-owned businesses, expand economic opportunity, and contribute to a more inclusive financial ecosystem in Kenya.
